SurCode MLP Encoder is the official software to encode MLP audio, but as of July 2022, it seems to have been wiped off the face of the earth, with the only acknowledgements of its existence being 1-2 decade old forums posts, and a dead russian torrent. But thanks to the work done by some amazing people, experimental support for encoding MLP audio has been added to FFmpeg.

What des this mean for me? Not much, I don’t plan on mastering audio for DVDs anytime soon. That being said, I can’t resist a good pun, so of course I had to encode some My Little Pony fan music into the Meridian Lossless Packing codec… MLP in MLP, it’s poetic don’t you think?
